City Hall Square to Christiansborg
Start your tour at the Visitors Centre, 4A, Vesterbrogade, opposite the Tivoli Gardens. Continue down Vesterbrogade to the Town Hall Square.

Cross the square and proceed past the Lurblowers’ Column. Turn left and walk down Lavendelstræde and Stutterigade onto the Nytorv Square. Here, a raised platform marks the former location of a scaffold and public whipping ground. Public punishments were carried out as late as 1780.

Continue down Kompagnistræde and Læderstræde, two interconnected pedestrian streets also known as Strædet, until you reach Højbro Plads. Dominated by the statue of Bishop Absalon, Copenhagen’s founder, Højbro Plads is a beautiful square overlooking the Christianborg Palace, the Old Stock Exchange, and the inner city canals.

Strøget and the Royal Palace
Continue down Europe’s longest pedestrian mall Strøget to Kongens Nytorv, a 300-year-old square lined with stately mansions and also home to the Royal Theatre. Cross the square diagonally, and explore the picturesque port of Nyhavn.

Proceed down Bredgade, home to many arts and antique dealers, and continue straight ahead to the impressive Marble Church and the Russian Orthodox Church with its golden onion domes. Turn right and enter the square enclosed by the Amalienborg Palace, the residence of the Royal Family. From here, you get excellent views across the harbor to the new Opera House.

The tour is continued.

The tour is based on the free city map "City map of Copenhagen" which you can find at Copenhagen Visitor Service (Vesterbrogade 4B), major attractions, etc.

Following the purple dots on the map, you will embark on a 3-hour journey through Copenhagen's city centre. On the way you will pass most of Copenhagen's major attractions and on the back of the map you can read more about each attraction.

Only got 2 hours? Head directly from Amalienborg Palace towards the David Collection and Rosenborg Castle - instead of heading towards the little mermaid.

Sights include: The City Hall, Christiansborg Palace, Nyhavn, Amalienborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, Rundetaarn and Church of our Lady.
